Those of us finished the mid semm break by going on a fun hike! Bush walking with chopsticks was.. enjoyable. But so TIRING. And cold. And wet. BUT FUN.

The best part of the day was when some of us decided to be super adventurous and wade into the waterfall. *AHEM* hilarity was ensued when many tripped, slipped and sloshed around in the freezing water. And then we tackled the many many steep steps that had us all huffing and puffing by the time we got to the top for a well earned rest stop!

Upon our completion of our trek, we were jinxed by the president’s words of: “At least it didn’t rain” as it started pouring when we started the 2km trek back to the station… Thankfully hot chips was the saviour of the day from our freezing numb fingers as we waited for the train home.

All in all, it was a fun day with a few mishaps, but many enjoyable moments (and a great workout).

Chopsticks & PhotoSoc: Mooncakes under Moonlight

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, here at Chopsticks we are so excited about the special celebrations planned for you all, we’re over the moon

Come down to Observatory Hill for a lovely afternoon picnic with your favourite Australian-Chinese Cultural Appreciation Society – us! Everyone is encouraged to bring some food along to share your lovely cooking skills with everyone – whether it be your signature dish, finger food or even some snacks. There will be a food competition for the best dish as voted by everyone attending, and the most amazing dish in our ‘Mooncake Masterchef Challenge’ wins a prize. Everyone who brings a dish however, is already a winner in our eyes and will be able to attend for free.

Of course a Mid-Autumn Festival wouldn’t be complete without everyone’s favourite mooncakes! Enjoy a variety of these yummy desserts whilst learning about the origins of this beloved tradition in Chinese culture.

There will be a fun lantern-making competition in between all the food action. Lanterns are a definite must during the Moon Festival – we can’t wait to see all your pretty lanterns light up the night!

In addition, we are holding a photography competition during this event with our friends at PhotoSoc, so all you budding photographers out there are encouraged to bring your cameras along and submit your best entries of the night. Winner of the best photo will win a digital photo frame.

So bring all your friends along and join us as we gaze at the moon while eating a moon(cake) and grow a moon (in our stomachs) from all the food =D

The afternoon of fun games, girls in maid costumes, guys in butler costumes, yummy food, live entertainment went by quickly than expected, and we were all full from the delicious treats there were!

This will be a massive event held together by Chopsticks, and our dear friends Wasabi, Choc Soc and Tea Soc – mark the date in your USU-provided-diaries NOW because this is one event you do not want to miss!

Maid cafés (メイドカフェ Meido kafe), typically found in Japan, feature waitresses dressed in maid costumes who serve their customers beverages and desserts. (Girls, do not fear we will have butlers as well as maids on the day so plenty of eye candy for everyone kidding..)

We will be providing an assortment of delicious snacks and desserts as well as beverages including tea, coffee, hot chocolate and juice. There will also be a variety of mini-games for you to participate in, and you can go in the draw to win an actual maid/butler costume worth over $100!

Also expect awesome live music and entertainment on the day as the perfect accompaniment to all the exciting games and delicious treats!

All in all, expect an afternoon of fun games, girls in maid costumes, guys in butler costumes, yummy food, live entertainment and more importantly lots of laughs with old and new friends AND 2 people will get to go home with their brand spankin’ new maid/butler outfits

First up, MOVIE – Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides. Johnny Depp returns as the quirky Jack Sparrow on a new adventure aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge with an old flame Angelica (Penelope Cruz) and the mysterious Captain Blackbeard (Ian McShane).

Who else is better company to watch it with than Chopsticks? And where else but IMAX! One massive screen for you, our lovely members, to sit back, enjoy, and forget that you have exams, if only for 3 hours XD

And our fun-filled day doesn’t end here. After the movie, we shall casually stroll over to Haymarket Hot Pot for one massive Chopsticky dinner. We have an entire floor dedicated solely for Chopsticks use, so for the next few hours, expect to be indulged in an all you can eat hotpot (and this includes seafood!), as well as games and trivia prepared especially for you.

A full hotpot menu is posted on the wall of this event, make sure you check it out to see all the delicious ingredients that can go into your hotpot!

Tickets are limited, so be sure to buy them ASAP from our stall at Merewether building (you will find us there between 11 and 3 during weeks 12 and 13), or contact a committee member to get hold of one for you. If you can’t make either event, make sure you at least attend the other!

Everyone at the Chopsticks Team hopes you all had a fabulous mid-semester break, and that all your shenanigans were fun and healthy!

Thanks to all those who joined in on Karaoke on Friday! It was wonderful fun, singing along to good tunes with good people. We apologize that the karaoke marathon was cut from 6 hours to only 3 – but we’re glad that no vocal chords were too hurt in the process. The Karaoke crew then went to Meet Fresh in Chinatown after-wards, for some much deserved desserts.

Here’s to another coming week at university… It’s okay, here at Chopsticks, we help you revive the awesome in your life by providing you instances to chill out and forget about the stress.

EVENTS!

CHOPSTICKS SPORTS DAY AND BBQ~~!(This WEEK!)

You may or may not recall that we are holding a SPORTS DAY! So what if the cold weather is approaching; all the more reason to head on outside and sweat it out, playing sport!

Basketball, soccer, rugby, badminton, volleyball and maybe, just maybe, a tug of war. Options are open, so grab your friends and decide on what you want to play. If you have a particular sport you’re interested in, do tell us, and if possible, we shall organise it for you =D

And of course, to keep our athletes performing at their peak, a BBQ shall be fired up in the afternoon. We are praying to the gods of weather for a clear day, but if necessary, we shall inform you about possible postponement options.

WHEN: Saturday 7th May, 12pm, Some of the Chopsticks crew will be at there much earlier (around 9), so feel free to join us earlier (or later).

GAMES + MOVIE NIGHT WITH VSA!(WEEK 10)

As many of you are well aware by now, Chopsticks holds fortnightly Games Nights at Level 4, International Student Lounge, Wentworth Building on Thursday nights. However in week 10 we have spruced up our regular games night; into a joint Games Night with VSA (Vietnamese Students Association)!!

There will be the normal games:

- jenga

- uno

-Shang Guo Sha

- card games

- MAFIAAAAAAAAA!!!! etc..

HOWEVER! Because it is a joint event, it’ll be double the amount of awesome! With two societies, where each society will bring food and drinks for their beloved members (that’s you!).

After the games have been played, we will then be watching a movie (that will be chosen by the end of the week)! SO KEEP YOUR EYES OUT FOR THAT!

WHEN: 3-5pm is Games night, and from 5pm is Movie night! (finishing at 7, when the scary lady kicks us out….)

This is a chance to meet more people in a different society! A simple event for cross-club interactions, designed specially for you =)
