Nooooooooooooooooo mid sem break is O-V-E-R. went by too quick…
Those of us finished the mid semm break by going on a fun hike! Bush walking with chopsticks was.. enjoyable. But so TIRING. And cold. And wet. BUT FUN.
The best part of the day was when some of us decided to be super adventurous and wade into the waterfall. *AHEM* hilarity was ensued when many tripped, slipped and sloshed around in the freezing water. And then we tackled the many many steep steps that had us all huffing and puffing by the time we got to the top for a well earned rest stop!
Upon our completion of our trek, we were jinxed by the president’s words of: “At least it didn’t rain” as it started pouring when we started the 2km trek back to the station… Thankfully hot chips was the saviour of the day from our freezing numb fingers as we waited for the train home.
All in all, it was a fun day with a few mishaps, but many enjoyable moments (and a great workout).

MID SEM NEWSLETTER :)
Sep 26th
WHEW. So the long awaited MID SEM BREAK HAS FINALLY ARRIVED. (Pffft… as if Mid sem USYD, it’s WEEK 9.. )
ANYWAY. TO savour the last day of freedom we’ve planned…
Bush Walking with Chopsticks!
SO WE ARE GOING BUSH WALKING!! We are heading to the Blue Mountains area, Wentworth Falls to be specific for a whole DAY.
We are going to take you on an amazing bush walking experience on one of the best hiking tracks available. There are trees, little animals, birds, trees, LOTs of waterfalls, amazing lookouts and more trees
!
AND we will be picnicking right next to a WATERFALL!! So half way through we will reach a picnic area in which we will rest up, chat, play games and EAT. If you bring shorts you can even wade into the water. Check the photos
Sound exciting? Well it is! Not athletic? Neither are WE
. Don’t worry… if I could do this track anyone can… haha
Of course we will provide food for the picnic and other entertainment along the way
.
Price:
Access: FREE
Non-Access: $4
(Plus train ticket)
So here is what you need to know to take part:
When:
Sunday 2nd October
07:30 - 18:30
Where to Meet:
Everyone who does NOT live on the Western line (Penrith, Richmond line or Strathfield or Parramatta) must go to Central. We will all be waiting there for you
. Everyone please be at Central at 8 SHARP or get there earlier (7:45) if you don’t trust yourself. The Train departs at 8:24 am. If you miss this you have to wait a whole half hour after to get the next one. The train arrives at Strathfield at 8:37 and Parramatta at 8:49. We are meeting in front of the HUNGRY JACKS at Central. This is the area in which the country link trains are. Essentially in front of the platform 9. You will need to buy a train ticket but it is very cheap for a place so far away! Its $10.00 for concession and $15.00 for those without concession. The train ride is long but chatting to friends should pass the time quickly
What do we do when we get there:
First we will go to Conservation Hut. (Directions http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=201469158042038966311.000499368b73ed3f3ad29) The directions are for cars, but it’s the same thing cause it wouldn’t let me save the walking one… It will take us 25 mins to get there haha sorry. Then we can eat there and rest up there before starting the bush walk. You can have a look at what the bush walks involves. I have been on a few bush walks and this by far is the best one that we want to take you guys on:
http://www.wildwalks.com/bushwalking-and-hiking-in-nsw/blue-mountains-wentworth-falls/national-pass-trail.html
It is meant to be a 3 and half hour walk although can be done in much less time but I assume with rests and you Asians taking heaps of photos we will take close to 3 and half to 4 hours maybe!
The best thing about this walk is that it leads to the waterfall area halfway through where we can have our picnic
. We will then head back up to another area near the place we started and rest up before heading back. Rest assured you can have a long sleep on the train back if you are really tired. We will catch the 4:31 pm train back to central and be back by 6:30 pm.
What to bring:
- A hat
- Water
- Sun block
- Snacks to share
- Games (cards and such)
- A baby leash for those who are prone to getting lost without supervision
PACK LIGHTLY! Chopsticks will bring the main food that you guys will be eating
, so don’t worry too much about that. But please do bring plenty of water!
More information on your request guys.

What a way to enjoy the last day of heaven outdoors with great company and great exercise! We look forward to see you soon!

The weather cleared up and as such – we were able to hold our Sports Day last Sunday at Victoria Park!! It was lovely to see all you little munchkins who came, and for those who didn’t, well, you missed out. =P
For those of who turned up for calligraphy and knot tying afternoon, YOU ARE ALL WONDERFUL ARTISTS. Especially the one who drew this,

Our language and food workshop last Thursday was also a SUCCESS and we thank the organisers for doing something so special!
UPCOMING EVENTS!!!
Chopsticks & PhotoSoc: Mooncakes under Moonlight
As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, here at Chopsticks we are so excited about the special celebrations planned for you all, we’re over the moon
Come down to Observatory Hill for a lovely afternoon picnic with your favourite Australian-Chinese Cultural Appreciation Society – us! Everyone is encouraged to bring some food along to share your lovely cooking skills with everyone – whether it be your signature dish, finger food or even some snacks. There will be a food competition for the best dish as voted by everyone attending, and the most amazing dish in our ‘Mooncake Masterchef Challenge’ wins a prize. Everyone who brings a dish however, is already a winner in our eyes and will be able to attend for free.
Of course a Mid-Autumn Festival wouldn’t be complete without everyone’s favourite mooncakes! Enjoy a variety of these yummy desserts whilst learning about the origins of this beloved tradition in Chinese culture.
There will be a fun lantern-making competition in between all the food action. Lanterns are a definite must during the Moon Festival – we can’t wait to see all your pretty lanterns light up the night!
In addition, we are holding a photography competition during this event with our friends at PhotoSoc, so all you budding photographers out there are encouraged to bring your cameras along and submit your best entries of the night. Winner of the best photo will win a digital photo frame.
So bring all your friends along and join us as we gaze at the moon while eating a moon(cake) and grow a moon (in our stomachs) from all the food =D
